The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - Book 1 - The Problem of Union |
43. Perception without judicial reasoning is arrived at
when the memory no longer holds control, the word and the object are transcended and only
the idea is present. This condition is the state of "meditation without seed," free from the rational use of the mind, and its faculty to concretize. The object (which is brought into the mind consciousness through recollection or memory) is no longer considered, and the word which designates it and expresses its power is no longer heard. Only the idea of which the other two are expressions is realized, and the perceiver enters into the realm of ideas and of causes. This is pure contemplation, free from forms and thought. In it the perceiver looks out upon the world of causes; he sees with clear vision the divine impulses; then having thus contemplated the inner workings of the kingdom of God, he reflects back into the quiescent mental body or mind that which he has seen, and that mental body throws down the knowledge gained into the physical brain. |
