Virgo - Full Moon Meditation
«I am the mother and the child, I am God, I am matter.»
(August 22 - September 21)
Introduction
This full moon meditation series is based on an astrological interpretation
of the twelve labors of Hercules from the Greek myth.
The twelve tasks of Hercules are symbolic lessons for every human from
the way of selfishness back to the Heart of God. As mortals we do not
exactly know the way to the higher worlds but the path itself knows
and leads us through sometimes dramatic experiences to our goal. So
we travel "on the path until we become that path", from Aries
to Cancer, Leo and Virgo - and further through all the astrological
signs to Pisces.
In Virgo unity and love set the standard tone. Virgo's fundament
is patience and a sense of right timing for the things to be done.
Abstract
In the sixth sign of the astrological year, Virgo, Hercules is called
to a special task, for Virgo is nearer to humanity than other signs.
Arise o Hercules, pass through the gate and seize the girdle of
Hippolyte, the warrior queen. - Another word was heard by Hippolyte
to give the girdle to a warrior named Hercules.
Hippolyte, behind the great sea, gathered the women around her and
pondered upon the word she got. The question was: "Shall we obey
the word or shall we fight?" The girdle was given to Hippolyte
by Venus, the queen of love, as a symbol for unity and motherhood achieved
through struggle and conflict. Finally Hippolyte went to Hercules who
was waiting outside to offer him the girdle. But instead of listening
to her words he started fighting. As he wrenched the girdle from her
she was a dying queen. As he stood beside, aghast at that which he had
done, he heard a voice "Why kill the one you love, the one who
offers you the symbol of unity, of sacrifice and faith, the custodian
of the possible?". Hercules leaving the women bereft of leadership
and love sought the way homeward in silence. As he passed at the rocky
shores of the great sea, he remarked a monster of the deep, holding
between his jaws poor Hesione. He forgot his regret and rushed to help
her, but too late. She disappeared within the throat of the sea serpent.
But losing sight of self, Hercules decided to let the monster swallow
him as well. So he seized Hesione deep within the belly of the monster,
took her within his arms and hewed the way out with his trusty sword
into the light of day. And so he rescued her, balancing thus his previous
deed of death.
In the ways of life you may unrecognized bring to death the one you
love and rush to rescue the one who is in need. Thus again the two are
one.
Explanation
There are four definitive statements in the key note:
- I am the mother... means to be the provider of all we need,
e.g. happiness, love and all the possibilities for granting our wishes.
We all have hung on the umbilical cord, getting the substance of our
body from our mother. Symbolically the mother is shown as the virgin
because she is "substance created by God without other parents".
The substance or matter is the immeasurable reservoir of all possibilities
and blesses us with all that we describe as happiness and fulfilment.
- ...and the child... confirms that the mother, giving birth
to everything within the God created state of duality, is the mediator
leading us back to the divine. Matter presents to us all possibilities
so that we may choose and become unified with God. The mother - or
matter - is symbolized in the lessons of wisdom through great female
figures such as Lilit, Isis, Eve, and then Miriam or Mary who is often
portrayed as the mother - or virgin - standing on the moon and carrying
the child in her arms. The symbolic meaning is that we should no longer
allow ourselves to be controlled by matter, rather, we should make
use of matter for the benefit of all the realms of nature. The "child"
is the inner God - God within us, not only in the sense that we should
recognize "God within" but also that we should reveal and
express our divinity. Only when we live our inner hidden spiritual
reality we will become more mature humans.
- ...I am God... This statement has far reaching consequences.
We should deeply ponder in a quiet moment what it means "to
be like God" as "He made us in His own image and likeness".
Nobody can return to the "Father's house" without following
him, striving after him and fulfilling his will. The path is long
and enduring; each task is a sign mark and every time we pass through
a particular zodiacal sign, we have to learn the ordered lessons -
until we arrive after many spiral cycles at "the Father's house"
in Pisces, the sign which lies opposite to Virgo.
- ...I am matter. We learn through this confirmation that the
causality of matter lies in the will of God. There is a saying that
"Spirit is finest matter and matter is coarsest spirit".
Contained in this analogy is the fact that the female part of life
in duality is the medium which forces us to attain god-like qualities.
One can also put it another way: We must learn, by going through cavernous
experiences - not only in the womb of our mother but also through
the darkness of earthly awareness - to fan our weak inner light more
and more until it brightens and illumines our path. This light then
burns for others and for all of nature. Finally the light redeems
the quantity of matter used by us.
Meditation on the seed thought of the month
- Remain in silence for some minutes.
- Sing three times: OM.
- Ponder upon the seed thought for 3 to 5 minutes:
«I am the mother and the child, I am God, I am matter.»
- Recite the following mantra:
I am a point of light within a greater light.
I am a strand of loving energy within the stream of love divine.
I am a point of sacrificial fire, focused within the fiery will of
God.
And thus I stand.
- Sing again three times: OM.
- Recite three times: May all living beings in all the worlds be
happy.
- Remain in silence for three minutes, than end with:
Peace, Peace, Peace.
